Art of the Guajeo

Sale Price:$18.00 Original Price:$20.00

The “Art of the Guajeo” will be available for free for any of my students so please contact me. I encourage you all to buy the recommended tracks for the examples I have as well as the artist’s records and not just stream them. The hyper links will be made to connect to either the purchase links or streaming links on Tidal because that’s where the artist currently benefits the most. This is not a “how to” book, you won’t find all the details in the pages so you will have to use your own ears to pick up those details. If you are interested in studying with me on this I will make many of these details clear in my upcoming classes.

I will be going over each guajeo on my Patreon channel “Salsa Meets Jazz” but this will only be available to my top tier students. If you want access to these guajeos broken up in a step-by-step manner, in detail, please sign up. There are many more perks to the channel so go ahead and take a look. Patreon.com/zaccaicurtis or search for “Salsa Meets Jazz.”

For the sake of communication, even though I further separate Afro-Cuban Jazz into Cubop and Instrumental Mambo, this music defies categorization. Again... for communication purposes... I try to recognize the contributions of Art Blakey’s approach to Cubop which was very different than Machito’s. There is so much grey area in music and I have no interested to start down the path of categorization.

With this said I hope you can take what I have here and add to it. In ‘Volume Two’ I will be discussing my own adven- tures in the montuno. So thank you for joining me in the journey, I hope to see you in the live streams. –Zaccai Curtis
